About

We human animals are currently in a kind of zoo, confined to smaller spaces than usual. In Shelter Zoo asks: how can we turn that idea on its head and find a sense of play in our new habitats? As masks become a serious part of our safety, can we also find ways to make them fun and frivolous?

Everyone from young children to established artists have added an animal to the collection.  Masks are pouring in from all corners of the world, from Qatar to Turin, Italy to St. Petersburg, Russia. Anyone can do this with materials they have at home - no animal is turned away!

The in shelter zoo came out of answering that question what to do while cooped up inside? My experience as child was that the best games came out of boredom. I have always loved wild animals. I wanted to own a zoo, be a zoo keeper, and be an exotic animal as well. As an adult I understand zoos are a complicated idea. Some people see cages, and restrictions while others can see protection, and care. Here at in shelter zoo our motto is Love Protect and Respect the animals.
